Detection of document fraud from perspective of Centre of Excellence for Combatting Document Fraud, Frontex
Document fraud remains one of the biggest challenges for European border guards. Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, actively supporting EU Member States detect document fraud. Frontex established the Centre of Excellence for Combatting Document Fraud in 2018 to fulfil the agency’s expanded role in combatting cross border crime.
Document fraud is a key element of various criminal activities, such as trafficking in human beings, drugs, stolen vehicle, firearms, and terrorism. Document and identity fraud is a serious threat to public and social security systems. The presentation focus on the latest document and identity fraud trends, including the different categories of users and the impact of new modus operandi on secured documents. Exhausted analysis of number of document fraud cases provides ideas on enhancing document security and raise awareness on the most effective methods of document fraud detection. Stressing the role of Frontex Centre of Excellence for Combatting Document Fraud in assisting EU/SAC Member States to detect identity and document fraud cases, the presentation emphasizes tailored Frontex products and projects, aimed to facilitate measures against false document use for cross border crime.
